I have a crazy goal, one that only God can help me achieve.

I graduate from high school next year, and, since I was three years old, I have walked with a walker. But my goal for graduation is that I’ll be able to walk across the stage with crutches. Without anyone holding my shoulders, without being terrified. I want to walk independently with the crutches, and with total trust in the Lord that He will be with me, and keep His arms around me so I don’t fall.

I’ll be honest, it’s scary. Falling absolutely terrifies me, because my cerebral palsy prevents me from being able to catch myself, should I start to fall. It’s scary, but God is stronger. That’s what I remind myself every time my fear overwhelms me, or every time the pain becomes too much. Because it does hurt. It hurts a lot, actually. But God’s love and grace is stronger and more intense than any fear I have or any pain I am in, and He is who I lean into to get me through those moments.

Yes, it’s a crazy dream. Yes, there’s a possibility I could work for the next year and still not be able to do it. But yes, I serve a big God who is strong and powerful and mighty and who can make my crazy dream a reality. So I’m going to try. I’m going to put in the work, get through the pain, overcome my fear, all the while trusting in Him and His love. Because with God, all things are possible.

  1. Robyn, my dear reader, you are absolutely right. Nothing is impossible for God! Yes, we do have to fulfill our part and it sounds like you are willing to do that – work on walking with crutches even through the pain. I so admire you for that and also for setting a big goal for yourself and trusting the Lord will help you achieve it. I have an acquaintance whose son has CP. He graduates high school this year and has achieved his dream of getting into a college in New York City because he wants to be an actor. The key is to cast away your fear, not an easy thing to do I know! Prayer is vital and it grants us peace during our trials. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 4:6-7 I am saying a prayer for you right now for strength and perseverance.   5. I believe you can do it! I believe God will help you. He is enough.

    So I pray right now as I’m typing this-I pray in Jesus name that He would be your strength as you practice. And the He would physically strengthen your legs so that you will be able to walk across the stage! I pray that all fear when walking would leave you.
    I’m standing in faith and believing this for you.
    YOU WILL WALK ACROSS THAT STAGE!
